Your puppy should be comfortable while sitting and standing inside the crate. There should also not be a lot of space left out inside the crate for your puppy to eliminate inside. You can also buy adjustable crates; you can increase the size of it by adding new walls or just adjusting it accordingly when your puppy grows bigger.

 

You can also change the crate when your puppy is fully grown. The crate even for fully grown dogs should be big enough for them to be able to stand, sit and even turn in a circle inside the crate comfortably. When you are ready to close the crate for the first time, try to do so and immediately open the crate for your puppy. Try repeating this quite a number of times so that your puppy knows that the crate can be closed and opened again. Now try to keep the door closed a little longer than before. Your puppy will cry and start whining. Make sure you do not talk to it and let it whine for some time until it gets used to the door shut also don’t open the door immediately feeling pity for your puppy. If you do so your puppy will whine every time you close the crate hoping you will open it if it cries and whines louder.

 

Open the crate when it’s time to let out your puppy for potty training for puppies, take it outside whenever you feel it wants to go to eliminate. Do this regularly for your puppies. Make sure puppies that are a month old or lesser than a month old will want to go to eliminate every hour. As the months increase so will the wait period as per their months, for example, 1 hour for a month old puppy, 2 hours for 2 month old puppy, 3 hours for a 3 month old puppy, so on and so forth.

 

Older dogs can hold their bladder longer and can wait for long hours before they eliminate. As you are potty training for puppies please remember younger puppies need frequent potty visits as they cannot hold their bladder for long and they are more prone to accidents. Never scold your puppy when it has had an accident. Make sure you stay calm and clean its potty and keep the dirt outside where you want your puppy to eliminate the next time.
